Curtis L. Cornett
PROFILE  
Curtis practices in the litigation group at Cors & Bassett. Curtis’s litigation practice includes representing management in all aspects of labor/employment law. In addition, Curtis has extensive experience in the areas of commercial and general litigation in both federal and state courts and at both the trial and appellate levels. In this regard, he has served as lead counsel in several jury trials which were tried to verdict and has successfully argued in front of various courts of appeal as well as the Ohio Supreme Court. Curtis also represents Cors & Bassett’s clients in labor arbitrations and in unfair labor practice and representation hearings before the National Labor Relations Board. Curtis also regularly practices before a host of other governmental agencies, including: the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the Department of Labor, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Curtis’s practice further consists of counseling clients on a daily basis regarding a variety of employment issues including: management-union issues in general, the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements, election campaigns opposing union organizational attempts, drafting employee handbooks, negotiating severance agreements, non-competition and trade secret issues, and compliance with Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Curtis received his juris doctor from the University of Cincinnati, where he served as an Editor on the University of Cincinnati Law Review. He earned a M.M. from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a B.M. from the University of Alabama, where he graduated cum laude.

Curtis is admitted to practice in Ohio as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Ohio, the Western District of Michigan, and the Eastern District of Tennessee. Curtis is further admitted to United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, and the United States Supreme Court.

Curtis is a member of the American Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, Cincinnati Bar Association, and the Potter Stewart Inn of Court.
